In today’s post, I’ll be sharing some simple handmade cards made with the Whimsy and Wonder specialty designer series paper and the heartfelt wishes stamp set.
Making simple handmade cards is so quick and satisfying when you use gorgeous designer papers like the Whimsy & Wonder Specialty paper! I especially love this paper because it has a fun, non-traditional color scheme for Christmas, plus there are patterns in the pack that can be used for all-occasion cards as well!
In this post, you’ll also learn some simple tricks for optimizing the use of your designer series papers and ribbon!
The first card you see here was my original design. It is made with my favorite pattern of designer paper in the Whimsy and Wonder designer paper pack.

One of the things I love about this paper is that there are shiny accents in the paper that change colors depending on how the light is reflecting on the paper. Notice how the bow in the top right corner looks silver in the photo above and blue in the photo below! So fun right?!

The other thing I love about this design is that while it looks like the designer paper is continuous, there’s actually a gap in the middle that’s covered up, allowing me to use a smaller piece of designer paper while it looks like I’m using a larger one.
Maximizing the use of your designer paper is especially useful when make multiples of a given design which is often the case when making Christmas cards!

You can cut your designer paper at a random angle or you can be more precise about it like I was.
Below is a simple cutting guide I used to cut my designer paper. Keep in mind that if the angle of your cut is much steeper you may need a longer scrap for the sentiment so it reaches the required distance.

After cutting the designer paper you simply attach the pieces with one justified toward the top and the other toward the bottom.
You’ll also want to make sure the edges on the sides, top and botton are the same.

Next, I stamped my sentiment and put a small bit of adhesive on the back. Then, I attached it so it would be centered on the opening between the designer paper pieces.

By the way, in the photo above did you notice how the bow at the top now looks purple? I love the touch of brilliant purple! It’s such a fun little surprise!
Then I just trimmed off the ends hanging off edges with my paper trimmer. You could also use a scissors but I love the precision of my cutter!

For a little pop of shine to flank the sentiment, I’ve used a piece of the Polished Pink Open Weave Ribbon cut down the middle.
Since only the edge of the ribbon will show once the sentiment is attached I’ve cut it down the middle, another resource saving strategy to make your ribbon last longer!

The ribbon pieces were attached with mini glue dots so that the shiny edges just barely overlap the edge of the designer paper. Then I simply snipped off the ends of the ribbon so they would be flush with the edges of the Polished Pink cardstock.

To attach my sentiment I used a piece of a Foam Adhesive Sheet cut to fit the sentiment piece.

I then attached my sentiment piece in the opening and my card is all done. Now on some of my other versions I’ve added one more element BEFORE attaching the sentiment so make sure to read on to learn what that is because it will make it easier for you to know this ahead of time in case you like this added detail.

For the second of my simple handmade cards, I used one of the more all-purpose designer paper patterns and a sentiment that works for any time of year! I love this Sending Love sentiment!

For this card I added some “Wonderful Snowflakes” to make this into a winter themed card.
Now if you’re going to use these snowflakes I highly recommend that you attach them before you attach your sentiment strip. It’s just easier. I’ve attached them with glue dots.

With this small additional element it can now be used as a Christmas card too!

By the way, these snowflakes have a slight irridescence on one side and a matte white finish on the backside. You can use either side. The irridescent side is shown in the photo below and above.

For my last and final card, I simply used the ornaments pattern of designer paper.

It also has shiny elements as you can see in the photos below.

It’s a bit busier looking but really like this version too!

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing these simple handmade cards today with the Whimsy & Wonder designer paper!
