30 Reasons Why I Needed the Hey Chick Bundle!

Sometimes creativity is inspired in unexpected ways and it’s just so fun! Today’s cards feature the Hey Chick Bundle which is a set of products I honestly never thought I’d be able to create with.

The truth is I just had to have the “Hey Chick” sentiment from the Hey Chick Bundle for a very specific reason! I must tell you a story to help provide some context for my mad desire for that sentiment.

As a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator I am blessed to have a team of 30 fellow demonstrators who’ve joined the Stampin’ Up! family through me.

As a team leader, I needed a name for my team and for years struggled with the decision. Some years back I was attending a Stampin’ Up! event and had the pleasure of hanging out with some fellow demonstrators most of whom I had never met before. As we were getting acquainted my new friend, Leigh Kyzer said to me something like, “I know you, you’re that Chick in a Treehouse”. It totally cracked me up and I instantly loved it! It was at that moment that I knew what my team name needed to be. So I now lovingly refer to my team as my Treehouse Chicks OR the Chicks in a Treehouse Team. Thank you Leigh!

So… for all the obvious reasons I just had to have that “Hey Chick” sentiment to make cards for my team.

While I don’t naturally gravitate toward the style of this stamp set, it was so much fun making the cards I’ll be sharing with you today! I hope you love them.

This first card was made for my awesome, amazing team member and friend, Cathleen Sorensen.

Cathleen was one of the drawing winners at the recent Maker’s Mojo Creative Escape and I wanted to send her a special card with her prize. We were actually texting back and forth on the night I was making this card. She knew I was creating with this set but didn’t know I was creating for her. I felt very sneaky and was so excited to send her this card!

As we were talking that evening, I did tell Cathleen that I was just loving these itty bitty corn elements in the set of dies. I’m a total sucker for all things tiny and cute! I sent her this picture so she’d have a sense of the size of these elements so now you do too!

To create my first two cards I needed to start by stamping and die-cutting the pieces you see below from the Hey Chick Bundle.

There is actually one piece shown below that is NOT from the Hey Chick Bundle and that is the gate. This gate was die-cut using the Garden Gateway dies that coordinate with the Grace’s Garden Stamp Set. There is an adorable little gate shape in the Hey Birthday Chick Bundle, which I did not actually purchase so I had to get creative and use what I had on hand.

So let’s get started building these cards with the Hey Chick Bundle!

  • The first thing I did was to create a watercolor wash on a piece of watercolor paper to create my sky background. I used my Water Painter with Balmy Blue ink to coordinate with the card body.
  • My chick was stamped with Jet Black StazOn onto a piece of watercolor paper, die-cut and then watercolored with Poppy Parade, Calypso Coral, and Blushing Bride ink.

Next I started working on the fence and corn stalk elements.

  • I first trimmed off the two end gate posts, so they would have a point on the top, like the other gate elements.
  • The next thing I did was figure out the position for my Soft Sea Foam corn stalk and I attached it in behind the gate with glue dots.

Tip: Two layers of glue dots were used in each spot where you see them, to raise up the gate just a bit on the card.

  • To assemble my corn, a tiny dot of multipurpose glue was squeezed onto the bottom of each corn. My Take Your Pick Tool was used to pick up each of the Pear Pizzazz corn husks and place them over the corn to attach them.

  • After my corn was attached to the Pear Pizzazz corn stalk I turned it over and placed glue dots in select spots. To ensure that the corn pieces laid at the same height as the stalk, I folded my glue dots in half to give them double the height.

The next elements I worked on were my sentiment pieces.

  • My “hey chick” sentiment was stamped on the lower half of my white sentiment piece so I’d have enough room to handwrite in the world “treehouse” above it. The banner ends were created with my paper snips.
  • The “congratulations” sentiment piece was stamped and banners cut in the same way.

By the time I was finished with all these other steps, my watercolored background piece was dry so I could begin assembling my focal piece.

  • After the fence element was assembled and attached my chick was attached with a double layer of Glue Dots on the right and a single layer on the left so she’d be at the same height on both sides in the end.
  • The sentiment pieces were attached with glue dots as well.
  • To finish off the focal element I crumpled all four corners of my Watercolor paper to give a worn look and…
  • Last but not least, I attached my die-cut chicken wire element on the bottom right of the focal piece.

To finish off my card…

  • the Early Espresso cardstock in behind was torn on both the top and bottom and attached to the card base and
  • a piece of braided linen trim was distressed for some added texture and attached to the bottom of the card with glue dots.

This next card was created to send to two team members, who recently reached an important sales milestone.

For this milestone, I send each team member a customized bone folder with their name on it, the Treehouse “Tree” Logo, and the words “I’m a Treehouse Chick Team Member”. It’s so fun to send these to recognize their accomplishments and everyone seems to love them!

This card was included in the package with their customized bone folder. It’s a small, non-traditional-sized card that measures 3-⅝” x 4-½”. It was created using much the same steps but it’s just a bit simpler.

  • For my watercolored background, I added some Early Espresso to the bottom to create the look of the ground.
  • My chick is watercolored with Poppy Parade and Crushed Curry inks.

The final card I have to share is just slightly different from the first one.

As you may be able to tell, my focal element is taller and the sentiment is different.

I’ve also simply tied my braided linen trim along the bottom instead of making it all tattered and worn-looking.

Before I finish up, I just gotta say “hey treehouse chicks… Thank you for being a team member!”
