April 2023 Color Challenge

Welcome to the Color Fusers Blog Hop and April 2023 Color Challenge!

If you’ve already started the blog hop you should be coming from the talented Janneke Dijkstra de Jong’s blog post. The color scheme for the April 2023 Color Challenge is Coastal Cabana, Gorgeous Grape, and Polished Pink.

Today’s project features the Greatest Journey Bundle. I’ve used a couple of the dies that I haven’t used before which was fun.

I’ve been playing with the Greatest Journey Bundle a lot lately and have been having so much fun! I created three gorgeous designs for my recent Greatest Journey class but clearly, I wasn’t done because I’ve used it for this project and my April Simple Suite Stampers Tutorial Bundle project as well. This tutorial bundle which includes 12 tutorials will be available as a free gift for customers who order through me starting in mid-April.

When I first started designing I was unsure whether this color scheme would work for a mountain scene.

Coastal Cabana seemed like an odd color for trees but I figured I’d just try it out and see how it looked. I first stamped the trees in both first and second ink, die-cut them, and then die-cut the tent outline piece all using Coastal Cabana cardstock. To my surprise I liked how they looked so I proceeded to die-cut a piece of Vellum cardstock for the solid die-cut piece behind the tent.

Next, I then played around with using the Gorgeous Grape and Polished Pink for the sky. I used just a bit of the Polished Pink and more of the Gorgeous Grape to create the feeling of dusk. The stars in the sky were stamped with Gorgeous Grape ink. I love how this background sky came out! The polished pink color on the horizon looks so pretty above the tent and through the openings of the tent! 

While I haven’t camped in a very long time, one of my favorite things about camping is seeing the sky full of stars when out in the wilderness.

The mountains are die-cut in Basic Black cardstock, using one of the dies from the Greatest Journey set of die-cuts. It’s the perfect additional element to literally ground the scene.

For some finishing touches, I die-cut a silver crescent moon for the sky and tied a piece of silver cord around the assembled focal piece.

To decorate the inside I used a tiny leftover scrap of watercolor paper that was watercolored with Gorgeous Grape and Polished Pink ink. This thin strip made a perfect little accent to the inside of my card.

I never would have imagined I could use this color scheme for a mountain camping scene but to my surprise I absolutely love it!
