Butterfly Brilliance with a Natural Touch

Today’s project was shared as part of my 18-year Anniversary celebration. I’ve used the gorgeous Butterfly Brilliance Stamp set with the Natural Touch designer paper.

Each year when I celebrate my Stampin’ Up! anniversary I like to look back at some of the projects I created as a new demonstrator and take stock of how I’ve developed and changed by remaking an old project. I call this a “rewind/redo” project. In my post that went live on Saturday, I shared a “rewind/redo” project. In today’s post I’ll be sharing details of what I’m calling my “fast forward” project which is more a reflection of my current crafting style. Today’s project uses the Butterfly Brilliance Stamp Set paired with the Natural Touch designer paper and the Saddle Brown StazOn ink pad.

My 18 year anniversary celebration continues with the Butterfly Brilliance Stamp Set paired with the Natural Touch Designer Paper.

I started by stamping my butterflies with Jet Black StazOn onto my Natural Touch specialty designer series paper.

There is just one stamp in the Butterfly Brilliance Stamp Set that stamps all these beautiful butterflies all at once. I like to put it on my Stamparatus since it’s so big.

The Natural Touch designer paper is unique in that it has a woodgrain texture that mimics real wood. It’s simply beautiful! It’s also a smooth, somewhat nonporous surface which is why I used my Jet Black Stazon. After stamping my images I dried the surface using the low setting on my heat tool. Then a sponge was used to apply a bit of Early Espresso Ink to the surface to bring out some of the wood grain texture. Next, I used a sponge to apply some Saddle Brown StazOn ink to each of the other butterflies. As you can see this ink is more of a golden/yellow than it is brown, so it’s perfect for butterflies!

I’ve made two versions of my card with some subtle differences. The first difference is in the coloring tools used to color my large butterfly.

Blends Alcohol Markers were used to coloring on one of the cards and Stampin’ Write Markers were used for the other one. If you use the Alcohol Markers you have to be careful not to touch the stamped black image as the StazOn will react with the alcohol.

The second difference between these two cards is in how I stamped the sentiment piece. In the photo below, for the piece on the left, I’ve used Gilded Leafing with heat and stick powder. For the sentiment on the right, I heat embossed with gold embossing powder. They’re both pretty but can you see how the Gilded Leafing is shinier?
