Card Ideas with the Love of Leaves Set

In this week’s Facebook Live I shared a number of card ideas with the Love of Leaves set.

These card ideas with the Love of Leaves set all used embossing folders combined with stamping in three different ways to achieve a range of results. Heat embossing was also used on a few of these projects for some added interest.

The key variable that was changed for each of the various projects was the point in the process that the leaf images were stamped.

For the card in the photo below, the three leaves were stamped on the Very Vanilla cardstock as the first step. Next the piece was dry embossed with the scripty embossing folder and then the additional stamping and heat embossing was done.

On this next card, the Very Vanilla cardstock was dry embossed with the scripty embossing folder first and then the leaf images were stamped over the top. As a result, a bit more of the dry embossed script shows through on the leaves. For this card I also chose not to do any additional stamping or heat embossing for a simpler, cleaner look.

For this next version of my card, I followed the same steps as for the card just above, stamping after the dry embossing was done. Due to the simpler, more linear nature of this embossing folder when I stamped over the dry embossed shapes, the ink filled in the gaps and so the inked leaf images appear solid as if I’d stamped on the card stock before dry embossing (but I didn’t).

I’ve also sponged around the edges using some Soft Suede Ink so more of the wood grain texture would show. The gold twine at the bottom is from the Forever Greenery trim combo pack.

These last few cards feature the third approach to stamping these images.

For these focal pieces, I stamped the leaf images directly onto the scripty embossing folder and then dry embossed to press the ink onto the Very Vanilla cardstock.

By doing it this way, the images also appear in reverse order with the Crushed Curry leaf now on the right, and the Blackberry Bliss leaf on the left.

Using this method the leaf images are not quite as bold and the dry embossed script shapes show on the leaves quite distinctly. When doing this method, you’ll want to stamp on the flat side of the embossing folder where the script portions are recessed. That way the script parts do not get inked so that you get the result you see here.

For this final version, I’ve added some additional stamping and heat embossing with gold embossing powder for more of a vintage sort of look.

This final card was actually the first focal piece I made when playing with this design. It was done on whisper white cardstock which seemed a bit stark to me so I decided to switch over to the very vanilla for a softer look.

I actually created this focal piece by stamping on my embossing folder, just like on the last card but I also stamped directly over each leaf to make the images more solid looking. So… this one is kind of a mash up of a few of the methods described previously.
