Card Making Fun with the Heart and Home Suite

In today’s post, I’ll be sharing two card making ideas with the Heart and Home Product Suite.

My projects also feature coloring in with Blends Alcohol Markers, dry embossing, die-cutting, and some creative ways to use and make the most of your designer paper in your card making.

In addition to the supplies you see below, I have also used the Heart & Home designer paper which will be available only until the end of June, when the mini-catalog retires.

Below are most of the pieces used to make this card. I’m missing one of my Basic Gray foliage pieces. The white piece (lower right) and black piece (upper left) are both die-cut using the Stitched Rectangle Dies. The white piece (upper left) will be used to stamp, die-cut, and color the main floral element for this card.

To start with you’ll use the largest floral image in the Blessings of Home Stamp Set.

I started by stamping one large image in the center, and then lots of smaller images around the outside edges.

So I stamped the large flower in the middle so I could die-cut it and use it for another card. When I did this, I didn’t know how I would use it. I just knew that I didn’t want to waste the designer paper if possible.

I will be using this large die-cut piece on the second card that will be shared today.

Next, you’ll attach the designer paper panel to the Basic Black card body and the Black Stitched Rectangle piece so that it’s centered over the designer paper. This die-cut piece will completely cover the hole in the middle.

The second floral image will then get stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink onto a piece of Basic White cardstock and die-cut.

As you can see in the graphic below I’ve used TWO pieces of washi tape to hold the die in place, so it doesn’t move when I run it through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine.

The first time I die-cut my flower I only used one piece of Washi Tape. The die moved while cutting. As you can see below the flower on the right has uneven edges.

After die-cutting my flower it was colored in with Smoky Slate and Misty Moonlight Blends Alcohol Markers.

In the video, at the end of this post, I shared the method I use when coloring images like these. There were several tips provided. Make sure to watch the video so you don’t miss out on my coloring tips.

After all the coloring is finished, you’ll attach the six folded ribbon pieces and the die-cut foliage pieces to the back using Mini-Glue Dots. Here’s what my assembled piece looked like right before I attached it.

For all the assembly details make sure to watch the video at the end.

Now before the flower is attached, you’ll need to prepare your dry embossed, die-cut piece. This white piece in behind the focal piece is dry embossed with the Hive 3D Embossing Folder and then die-cut with one of the Stitched Rectangle dies.

Card Making Tip: It’s important that you dry emboss first and then die-cut, otherwise you won’t be able to see the stitching on the rectangle if you switch the order.

To add a little interest to the dry embossed piece I sprinkled some flecks of ink from my Clear Wink of Stella brush onto the piece. The process for doing this is shown in my card making video tutorial ahead.

Here’s a close-up that shows some of these Wink of Stella sprinkles:

Now all that’s left is just a bit of assembly. Start by attaching the dry embossed piece and attach the Misty Moonlight strip so that it’s centered side-to-side.

Next, stamp and attach the sentiment piece with Mini-Glue Dots so it’s justified to the right. I folded my glue dots over so they’d be double-height for a tiny touch of dimension.

Now simply attach the assembled flower, tucking the stem underneath the sentiment piece just a bit.

A few die-cut pieces were added for a little surprise inside. Cute right? Now we’re ready to move on to the second card for the day!

Do you remember, my large floral element that was stamped and die-cut from the designer paper panel?

Here’s the card I made with that large floral piece:

For this large floral element, I used the same colors as on the first card plus I’ve used Balmy Blue and Highland Heather Blends Alcohol Markers too! I think it turned out to be so pretty!

The background layer of designer paper here was stamped in exactly the same way as on the first card. The only difference is that I’ve added a little Misty Moonlight with my Blending Brush.

For the floral focal element, I’ve attached six die-cut foliage pieces behind the flower with glue dots. The whole element is attached to the Vellum Cardstock with dimensionals. The other layers are simply cut, not die-cut, and attached.
