Collage Stamping Essential Techniques

Hi Stamping friends! Today I’ll be sharing one of my three free card kit projects for September and October 2019. It features collage stamping with the Very Versailles, Tasteful Textures and Perfectly Plaid Stamp Sets.

I’ve made two card variations featuring simple vintage style collage stamping. My first design was an all-purpose card with a neutral sentiment. I made just a few simple changes to transform it into a Christmas Card.

Here is the first version of my card:

Today's project features collage stamping plus two techniques every crafter should know! Very Versailles and Tasteful Textures Stamp Sets are used.

This card features two must-know paper-crafting techniques that I use all the time! The techniques used are sponging and what I like to call “generation stamping” or stamping off.

Since I’ve used just one ink color (black) for my collage stamping, using multiple generations of ink, by stamping off, is absolutely crucial for achieving the end result! For several of the images I’ve inked up the stamp just once and stamped it multiple times. Each time you stamp, the image gets lighter and lighter, creating images with less and less visual weight. For me, this is essential to creating a collage, that is not too busy, and is pleasing to the eye.

I like to use the term generation stamping because in my card below I’m using up to eight “generations” or layers of ink, from inking my stamp just one time.

In my video tutorial ahead, you’ll learn all the details of what generation of ink I used for each image, for my collage stamping.

For this second card, I made some very simple changes to transform it into a Christmas card.

The most obvious change, of course, is that I used a different sentiment. I also heat embossed the sentiment, using my Shimmer Black embossing powder, to give it a little sparkle.

The sentiment comes from the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set shown here:

I’ve also stamped the foliage image differently, on this version of my collage.

Can you see the difference here?

If not, you should be able to see the difference in this next close-up shot.

Instead of stamping the foliage in the Memento Black ink, I’ve stamped it in Versamark and heat embossed with the Shimmer Black embossing powder. By adding the heat embossing, it creates an image that has a stronger visual weight than all the other images, helping it to stand out. Plus, the sparkle just makes it look more festive for the Christmas theme.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my projects today!
