Welcome to the Color Fusers Blog Hop for October!
What a perfect color combination for this time of year as we move into fall! It’s my favorite season and I love to create in this color palette. Today’s project features dry embossing with sponging on the first card and heat embossing on the second card. I’ve used the Tin Tile Embossing folder which I absolutely adore.
Embossing folders are often treated as backgrounds but in this case the Tin Tile Textured Impressions Embossing Folder takes center stage!
Here are a few project details:
- Start with dry embossing a piece of Whisper White cardstock using the new Tin Tile embossing folder from Stampin’ Up!. Place the cardstock into the Tin Tile embossing folder so there are three flower-like shapes centered on the panel.
- Sponge over the dry embossed cardstock starting with the lightest color. In this case I started with the Crushed Curry. Sponge more than 1/4 of the panel so there will be room to overlap some on both sides with the other colors. The lightest color will tend to be the one that gets overpowered by the darker colors, which is why I like to start with a larger section in this color.
- Sponge on the left side with the Granny Apple Green, overlapping just a bit with the Crushed Curry to make it blend with the Crushed Curry.
- On the right of the Crushed Curry, sponge with some Calypso Coral, overlapping a little to blend the colors.
- Finally, sponge on the right side of the panel with the Cajun Craze ink over the dry embossed panel.
More project details:
- Using the Bronze Blends Alcohol Marker to color two medium and one large Rhinestone Jewel. The bronze helps soften the color of the rhinestone and give it a warm tone. It looks a little like Cajun Craze.
- Attach these colored Rhinestone Jewels to the centers of the three flower-like elements on the dry embossed panel. Check out these colored rhinestones in the photo ahead.
- Next you’ll create an ombre effect on the Vanilla Lace Trim using the light and dark Cajun Craze Blends Alcohol markers. I use the large end of the blends alcohol marker to color with the light marker first, coloring all along the center of the ribbon. You do not need to color the top or bottom edge. The top edge will be in behind the focal piece and the bottom edge will be colored with the dark Cajun Craze Blends alcohol marker.
- Attach the Lace Trim using Mini Glue Dots in behind the focal piece.
- The focal piece is attached to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
When I was creating this first card I played around with adding something to the background. I had to convince myself that it didn’t need anything but the gorgeous focal piece!
In the process of proving it to myself, I created the card just ahead. Using temporary adhesive I attached the four panels to my work surface and stamped my favorite image from the Country Road Stamp Set in Versamark. Then, I heat embossed with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder, to create the background you see on the card below. As it turned out combining the background below, with the focal above, was just too busy, so instead, I made it into it’s own card.
A few project details for this variation:
- The sentiment comes from the Country Home Stamp Set in the Holiday Catalog. It is heat embossed with Copper Stampin’ Emboss Powder.
- You’ll attach the Braided Linen Trim behind the sentiment piece using Mini Glue Dots and then loosen the exposed ends to give it a more casual look.
- Attach the sentiment piece to the Cajun Craze layer using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Here’s a close up of the sentiment piece:
So I had to make one more version of this card!
It’s a little hard to see the copper embossed sentiment in the card above so I decided to try another color for the sentiment piece. I really like this version with the Calypso Coral Sentiment piece. On this one the sentiment is just stamped in Early Espresso ink.
These are my two favorites:
Don’t they look pretty together?!
Heat and Dry Embossing along with sponging are the featured techniques on these simple cards.
So as I was finishing up writing this post it suddenly occurred to me that the lace element on the first card was on my Color Fusers project last month as well. Clearly, I really liked the Ombre Effect on my lace trim and wasn’t done playing with it!

Great ideas! Wow!
Gorgeous cards Melissa! I love your color blocking concept on both cards. The tin tile one is really stunning, especially with the colored lace!
Thanks so much Tami! I can’t seem to get enough of the Tin Tile embossing folder. I sure hope it carries over to the annual catalog!
