Craft Room Tour and Organizing Tips

Check out my 2020 craft room tour and how I organize my paper crafting supplies.

The focus of the craft room tour today is the contents of my most used drawers, cabinets, and desk space to maximize easy access to the items I use all the time. I organize my space so that most everything I use all the time is within arms reach when sitting or standing at my crafting desk.

Today's post focuses on a craft room tour and how I organize my paper crafting supplies. A Facebook Live video tour of my studio is included.

This tour will encompass:

  • The storage on top of my desk
  • My storage cabinet to the right and below my desk (Alex cabinet)
  • The lower wall unit to the left of my desk including my sliding door cabinet and two sets of larger drawers (Gallant cabinets).

On my desktop, I have a couple of baskets to store and hide some items I use all the time.

Here’s how I store all my current embellishments:

This other basket contains my most recent “card salads”.

What is card salad? Well, I tend to stamp a lot of pieces during a single creative session that I don’t use on my final project(s). These pieces get bagged up so I have lots of little baggies of coordinating pieces (salads) to be used at another time or that can be given to others for a quick project start.

Now in the first picture of my desk above it’s totally clean but that’s not really the norm! I usually have lots of projects and things happening on my crafting desk and it looks more like the photo below. I’m also showing this photo to point out the white cabinet that is hidden under my desk in the lower left hand corner of this photo.

This is my amazing set of “Alex” drawers that are from Ikea!

You can get Alex cabinets in several different sizes and configurations. Mine has six drawers with two different depths. The top three drawers are shallow and the bottom three drawers are a little deeper. These drawers contain the next set of “most used” crafting supplies that I will be showing today.

The next stop on my craft room tour is the lower cabinets on my “wall of fun”!

In today’s craft room tour, I didn’t really spend any time talking about the top half of my “wall of fun”. That will have to be a subject for another day. Just know that the top half is from The Container Store and is completely customizable.

These lower cabinets and my desk are parts of the Gallant line of products from Ikea.

I chose the sliding doors on the right so that:

  • My cardstock would not be exposed to the sunlight and so,
  • There would be no doors that would swing out into my space.

For each individual color, I have a sheet protector that holds scraps and half sheets for card bases.

Above my card stock there is an additional shelf where I keep my sponges and sponge daubers. I love and use my sponges all the time!

Inside the left sliding door, I keep cardstock that either I use less often OR In Colors that just don’t fit on the right side. I also keep some extra packs of card stock and my most used large tools.

Above my card stock on this side, there is also an additional shelf where I keep my embossing powders and glitters in recycled stamp cases. I’ve also got some specialty ink pads and homemade ink pads in stamp cases, hidden to the right of the powders.

To the left of the sliding door cabinet, I’ve got two sets of Gallant drawer units.

The most used drawers in both of these cabinets are the top and bottom ones. The top drawers are more shallow and are the perfect height for Stampin’ Up! punches. The bottom drawer is deeper and is perfect for dies and embossing folders.

You might also like to know that my crafting studio is also a classroom.

My studio is on the third floor of my house and looks out onto a deciduous forest. It is this “treehouse” type view that inspired the name of my business. In fact, it was one of my longtime customers and friend Loretta who first coined the term. She used to say, “I love coming to your treehouse. Here’s a photo of the space as you enter the room.

      Hi Connie. I’m so glad to know you enjoyed my craft room tour. As for your question the desk, desktop shelves, the sliding door cabinet, and large drawers are all part of the Gallant furniture line from IKEA. I think there was a link in the blog post but it should also be easy to find on the IKEA site assuming they still carry these items. I purchased all these items about 6 years ago so hopefully, they still carry them. Have a great day and Happy Crafting!

    I just wish I had all of your room. Im confined to a very small bedroom and its forever in a mess. I have said no more buying. That lasted about as long as it too the next package at the front door. I have cabinets and a couple of draws. Help
