Easy Masking and Sponging Techniques

In today’s post, I’ll be sharing a Team Make n’ Take card, that features some easy masking and sponging techniques with a monochromatic color scheme, and the Poppy Moments Dies!!! It’s simple to make and gorgeous too!

I love the card I’m sharing today for three important reasons! I love monochromatic color schemes, foliage shapes, and easy masking and sponging techniques! Plus, if that’s not enough, it doesn’t use a ton of supplies either, making it pretty easy to recreate.

Check out some easy masking and sponging techniques with a monochromatic color scheme and the Poppy Moments dies!!! It's simple and gorgeous too!

I’ve used two die-cut shapes from the Poppy Moments Dies plus a die from the Painted Labels Dies for the sentiment.

  • After doing my die-cutting I used both the negative and positive shaped pieces as masks and then sponge through the opening, or around the edges, of the die-cut shapes.

  • I repeated my sponging using the negative space pieces twice and then using the positive space die pieces twice to create my multi-dimensional background of sponged shapes.

  • For one final step, I used a droplet of Memento Black Ink with an Aqua Painter to flick little specks of black over the sponged background for some added dimension and interest.

Watch my video tutorial at the end of this post if you’d like to see me build this card from start to finish. It’s easier than it sounds! Really!

Now I can totally see trying these easy sponging and masking techniques to recreate this card in shades of green OR play with some other die-cut shapes to get other fun looks! I hope you’ll get creative and give it a try!

As mentioned above, this was a Team Make n’ Take project and so a kit to make this project (along with the other project for the month) was mailed to team members who qualified.
