Emboss Resist Stamping Technique and the Forever Fern Bundle

Today’s projects feature the Forever Fern Bundle with the Emboss Resist Stamping Technique.

Sometimes when I craft, I get this crazy, excited, giddy feeling. I like to call it “finding my creative bliss”! It doesn’t always happen but when it does, it’s amazing. It’s this very feeling that keeps me crafting and sharing after 17 years as a demonstrator. I tell you this because I “found my creative bliss” when making today’s projects with the Emboss Resist Stamping Technique!

Now, finding my own “creative bliss” is wonderful but I have to say that sharing it with others makes it even better! As a demonstrator, I love that what I share may help others to find their creative bliss, plus when I share with my team and they share too, it’s like an exponential impact. Spreading joy is my goal! In fact, the projects I’m sharing today were first shared at a Treehouse Chicks team event! My team loved this project!

Here are the two variations of my card:

Below you’ll see the first card I made.

It includes layers of sponging, clear heat embossing, and stamping to create lots of depth. The die-cut shapes add more depth to the project. Plus, sponging the edges of these pieces accentuates the shapes, and adds even more dimension to the card.

The other aspect of these cards that I love is the element of texture. The dry embossed background, raised heat embossing, ribbon, and twine all add texture to this piece.

This first focal piece was created using a piece of white card stock. It’s why the foliage in the upper right-hand corner and lower left-hand corner look a bit white.

The dry embossed layer on this version of my card is made with Soft Sea Foam card stock.

So to get started creating this card I sponged a bunch of Soft Sea Foam ink and bits of some other colors of ink on my card stock as well.

TIP: At this stage do NOT apply too much color otherwise you won’t get a lot of contrast in the light and dark areas when you’re done.

These are the inks used for my sponging, plus the Versamark was used for the heat embossing.

TIP: After the first layer of sponging was done I dried my piece with my heat tool on the low setting and used my embossing buddy. These two steps help to make sure the embossing powder doesn’t get in places where I don’t want it.

Then I stamped my images in Versamark Ink and heat embossed them with clear embossing powder. For this focal piece, I used a piece of Very Vanilla card stock for a softer look and so that it would coordinate a bit better with the Very Vanilla ribbon. The layer in the background is dry embossed with a piece of Pretty Peacock card stock.

For the next step, more sponging was done to bring out the shapes of the heat embossed images.

This is where the emboss resist stamping technique comes into play.

It’s really simple… when you rub ink over the heat embossed images they resist the ink. Since they’re embossed with clear embossing powder you still see the color that sealed under the image. However, the card stock surrounding the heat embossed images still absorbs the ink so it gets darker thereby highlighting the heat embossed image.

After doing this second layer of sponging I stamped some images in Shaded Spruce ink in first and second ink to add even more layers of dimension. This second card is my favorite of the two! I sent this card to my mom and she absolutely LOVED IT!

The emboss resist stamping technique is so fun to play with!

It makes me feel like an artist, and if you give it a try I think it will make you feel that way too! I hope you will play with this amazing, simple technique and “find your creative bliss”, as I did!
