Embossing Folder Techniques

In today’s post, I’ve included several variations on a fun technique with the Country Floral embossing folder!

Embossing Folder Techniques with the Country Floral embossing folder are shown here, including heat embossing on copper foil and stamping with the folder.

For my original design above I’ve applied Memento Black ink to my Country Floral embossing folder and dry embossed my focal piece, to create a bit of an antiqued look. I heat embossed over the whole surface with clear embossing powder to seal the black ink on the surface.

Can you see the difference between the two embossed copper pieces below?

The one on the left has the black and the one on the right is dry embossed with no added ink.

Here is a close up of the card:

For this next version, I used some other colors of ink on the copper foil.

Again the colors were applied directly to the embossing folder and then the copper foil was dry embossed to transfer the ink to the surface of the foil. The only color that really shows is a bit of the Early Espresso on the bottom right and left corners. Again, clear embossing powder was used to seal the whole surface just like in the first version.

To create some more contrast and interest, I ran my Jet Black StazOn Ink pad over the raised areas of the dry embossed copper foil after it was dry embossed.

Here’s a close up so you can get a better look:

My final version of this card used yet another embossing folder techniques variation.

For this card, I used Versamark on the embossing folder and then heat embossed with Black embossing powder.

Check out this very dramatic result!

Here are a few close ups so you can appreciate the detail.

On these close-ups, you may also be able to see that there’s a layer of Basic Black cardstock that is dry embossed with the Subtle Embossing folder. Also, the Black Shimmer ribbon is wrapped around the backside of this layer, and the whole thing is attached to the card body with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Here are all three versions of my Embossing Folder Techniques cards:

Each turned out so different and I love them all and hope you do too!

Dear Melissa, your embossing folder technique is amazing. I did not know we could color the folder itself. da. I was overwhelmed as I watched your tutorial and cannot say I have a favorite among the foil and regular card stock. They are all unique and sooo beautiful! I don’t use my versa mark and heater that much but now I will be using it a lot more, especially with such beautiful results. You have introduced me to a whole new way of making cards and how I appreciate new ideas. I receive raves from my friends and family when they receive my cards. Wait until they get these. WOW! They even tell me they SAVE all their cards that I send them. That to me is payment enough to keep me going. I am a widow and live in Bronson, Florida. I am 79 years old and this hobby keeps me very busy. I am grateful that I stumbled onto your website and am looking forward to watching you again soon. God Bless and keep up the great work you are doing!

I just loved reading your comment Lois! It brings me great joy to know that you learned something new and plan to play with it and share it with others. Thank you so much for commenting!

There’s another technique that you might enjoy. It’s called the Impressions of Tarnished Foil and it also uses embossing folders and heat embossing too. It’s easily the most popular thing I’ve ever created! Here’s a link in case you want to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jut8yrPWLiM&t=1s

I just found you today–Mar 19–and I love, love, love your techniques. I plan to get the Country Floral ef (if it’s not sold out), and also apply to sone of the ef’s I already have. I signed up for the newsletter while at your site. I wish I was part of the live facebook, but I would think there will be other times. I appreciate your sharing your creative, artistic talent. My first time here and I’ve learned a lot. Thank you very much. Blessings.

        Dear Melissa,
I’m a retired teacher and your video is one of the best I have seen. I liked the techniques and plan to try them. Your oral presentation was so organized and clean step by step with hits sprinkled between. Never a goofy delay cause of lack of planning like so many videos on youtube. Very well done. This is not a typical note you get but hoped you would appreciate a different perspective.
        Mary

        • Melissa Kerman says

Thank you so much for the sweet comments Mary! I’m so glad you enjoyed this video and appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. Enjoy playing with these techniques and I’ll look forward to hearing from you again!

  2. Debbie says

My only question is how your embossing folder looks after putting Versamark on it! Are you able to clean it off?
This is just beautiful! Breathtaking! Stunning! I absolutely love it!
