In today’s post, I’ll be sharing several mini note cards that I’ve made either with “scrap salad” or with the Scrappy Strips Technique.
So what is “scrap salad” you might ask? Well, after each creative session I’m most often left with parts and pieces I’ve stamped, die-cut punched, colored, etc. These leftover pieces were made as I experimented with my layout or technique. Over the years I’ve gotten into the habit of putting these leftover nibbles and bits into a baggie for my future use or to give away. The pieces typically coordinate in color and style, to some extent, so they make a pretty awesome creative jump start.

I especially love using these “card salads” for making 3 x 3 note cards.
I’ve used parts and pieces from each of five of the piles in the photo above to make some of the projects I’m sharing today.
The first “salad” I worked with included three little piggy’s that I had watercolored and die-cut. These images come from the This Little Piggy Stamp Set. I also had some sentiments stamped on a strip of cardstock from the same set.

I was able to punch out one of the sentiments with a circle punch and back it with a balmy blue punched scalloped circle. The other sentiments were stamped too close to the edge of the card stock to punch a circle so I simply cut them by hand.

I added a few additional pieces to bring this card together including some Balmy Blue circles to back my piggy focal pieces, plus some dry embossed pieces of Pear Pizzazz card stock that are popped up on dimensionals. These were so quick and easy to put together and they’re so cute!
The This Little Piggy Stamp Set is retiring as of 6/2/20 so make sure to purchase this set soon if you want it!

Below is the inside of my final card from which these card salad pieces came. To see more projects made with the This Little Piggy stamp set and the blog post featuring this card click HERE.

These next two 3 x 3 note cards are made with the “card salads” shown in these next two photos.
This first salad is made with the Honey Bee Bundle which is also retiring on June 2nd!

This card salad is made with the Daisy Lane Stamp Set. I’m happy to say that this stamp set and it’s coordinating punch will remain in the new catalog. Yay!

Below are my two 3 x 3 note cards made with these card salads. I added just a few layers and the card bases to put these two together. So easy!

From this next “card salad” I made five 3 x 3 mini note cards!

For this first card, I used the Very Vanilla and Roccoco Rose lace pieces, nested together like a puzzle, to create the background. These lace pieces are die-cut using the Stitched Lace Die. I then simply punched out several daisies in two sizes and three colors and added a, 2019-2021 In Color Faceted Dot to the center. These Dots are retiring and on sale for just $3.19! Gotta love that price!

This next pair of cards were created using the Daisy Lane Stamp Set plus a couple of dry embossed layers and some Rococo Rose 1/2″ (1.3 Cm) Scalloped Linen Ribbon. I cut my ribbon in half along the length and attached one side at the top and other at the bottom, with mini glue dots.

These next two cards are exactly same except I’ve use Early Espresso card stock instead of black to coordinate with the colors in the stamped images.

These were so simple and quick to create!

Here’s my “scrap salad” from my Distressing Techniques Class:

For this card and for the Distressing Techniques class I used the Very Versailles and Tasteful Textures Stamp Sets, which you can also purchase as part of a bundle. I’m so sad to say that the Tasteful Textures stamp set and coordinating dies are retiring very soon. I don’t have a close up of the mini note card I made as I have already given it to someone but it is included in the photo at the end of this post.
So if you haven’t figured out already, I hate to waste and love to use scraps in my creative efforts!
So for all the 3 x 3 note cards so far I’ve used “scrap salads” but for the remaining cards I’m sharing today I’ll be using scraps that are strips of card stock and designer paper from some scrappy strips technique cards I shared previously.
I created 9 – 3 x 3 note cards just from the scraps leftover from the three cards you see here. To see my post with these cards and to learn more about the scrappy strips technique click HERE.
