Fun with Glue Resist Art!

In today’s post, I’ll be sharing some crazy fun with what I’m calling glue resist art.

I’ve been playing with adhesives of various kinds lately and I’ve been having so much fun thinking of non-traditional ways of using them. In fact, I have a class dedicated precisely to Creative Play with Adhesives. At the end of this post, learn how you can get the 29-page PDF Tutorial for this class completely FREE! So the class ended but I wasn’t done playing with ideas. Today’s three glue resist art projects are just a few of the cards I’ve created lately!

The graphic below shows two fun ways to play with your adhesives. Method #2 in this graphic is the one I used for today’s cards.

For the focal pieces on two of my three projects today, I applied the glue to a piece of Vellum Cardstock, and then heat embossed with white embossing powder.

Check out these unique Christmas cards made with the Lights Aglow suite & some unusual techniques for using adhesives in your paper crafting.

The focal piece on this first card was created during my Facebook Live video.

You’ll find the video at the end of this post.

Here I’ve used Dark Blends Alcohol Markers in Sweet Sorbet, Orchid Oasis, and Starry Sky directly on the Vellum and moved and blended the colors using a Water Painter with 99% Rubbing Alcohol. The Vellum is backed with a hidden piece of Orchid Oasis Cardstock.

I’ve dry embossed the white background piece with the Timeworn Type Embossing Folder. The “Thinking of You” sentiment comes from the Framed Occasions Stamp Set and it’s stamped in Starry Sky ink.

This next card features the first focal piece I created using the glue resist art technique.

Dark Blends Alcohol Markers in Granny Apple Green, Tahitian Tide, and Night of Navy were used on the Vellum here. The Vellum is backed with a hidden piece of Tahitian Tide Cardstock.

The “Thank You” sentiment comes from the Beauty of Friendship Stamp Set and it’s stamped in Night of Navy ink.

For my last card, I played with yet another variation. Here I’ve changed both my colors and the methods used.

Here you’ll stamp and heat embossed the images in white with the Joyful Flurry Stamp Set. No glue was used here on the focal piece.

Users Dark Blends Alcohol Markers in Starry Sky, Night of Navy, and Tahitian Tide on the Vellum here. The Vellum is backed with a hidden piece of Basic White Cardstock. In the background, a piece of Snowflake Specialty Vellum was used. The white dots you see here are raised white flocking. It looked like snow to me which seemed like the perfect background for my focal piece.

Now, this piece didn’t quite turn out as I had hoped but I did learn something interesting in the process.

Can you see how some of the snowflake shapes don’t look complete?

The alcohol somehow caused the heat-embossed images to pull away from the paper and fall off. I’m thinking this happened because these are such delicate, fine-lined images. This did not happen on the pieces where glue was heat embossed in white.

Stamp the sentiment in Starry Sky Ink from the Joyful Flurry Stamp Set.
