I’ve had so much fun with the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set and I can’t wait to share my projects in today’s post!
Today’s projects feature a messy but fun technique that uses Pigment Sprinkles directly on stamps. I had so much fun with the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set with the Pigment Sprinkles. This technique works perfectly with some of my favorite images in this set! I’ve created four project variations as you can see here.

Doing this technique is actually quite simple and I have some tips and details for you in this post.
Here are the basic steps:
- Wet you red rubber stamp with a few sprays of water.
- Sprinkle a small amount of your lightest color of Pigment Sprinkles onto your stamp and spread the color around with an Aqua Painter.
- Sprinkle a bit more of this same color and one or two other coordinating colors of Pigment Sprinkles onto the stamp.
- Spray again with a bit of water and then stamp.
I used the Granny Apple Green, Daffodil Delight and Mango Melody Pigment Sprinkles on the tree you see in the photo below.

For this card I’ve also used the direct to paper technique to get the streaky texture on the Mango Melody frame. The frame is popped up on dimensionals.

Tips:
- When you try this technique I highly recommend having lots of watercolor paper and paper towels handy.
- You can typically stamp multiple times after applying one set of pigment sprinkles.
- You may want/need to spray water on your stamp between each stamping depending on how much water you initially applied.
- I typically stamp on both sides of my watercolor paper pieces and then choose which images are my favorite.
The four focal pieces on these cards were created using the exact same process but look how different they came out! I think they’re each unique and beautiful!

For my next three cards, I’ve used a different combination of Pigment Sprinkles colors.
For all three cards, Granny Apple Green and Bermuda Bay Pigment Sprinkles were used and yet each of these focal pieces turned out so different!
On this first one, the Granny Apple Green dominates in the stamped trees. It’s really hard to control the amount of Pigment Sprinkles that you use. In fact, it can be hard to even see the sprinkles until you add water, which is what activates the color. That sort of means that the result is always a bit of a surprise. I think the element of surprise makes the Pigment Sprinkles so much fun to use!

For this next card, the Bermuda Bay sprinkles dominate.

This last one was really a combination of a few techniques. The background was created with pigment sprinkles as well but not with stamps. I essentially put sprinkles onto an acrylic block with water and then pressed my paper against the block. For this background element I used the Daffodil Delight with a touch of Granny Apple Green and Mango Melody sprinkles.
On some of the trees can you see some reddish tones? Well, believe it or not those reddish tones happen when you use a lot of the Bermuda Bay sprinkles in one place. It’s really kind of strange but I did this enough times to know it’s really true! Crazy right?

Here’s my trio now that you know a little bit about how they were created:

You should know that the Pigment Sprinkles are retiring as of June 2nd, 2020 and they’re ON SALE for just $16.10. If you don’t have these already, NOW is the time to get them!
