In today’s post, I’ll be sharing several examples of heat embossing with embossing folders using watercolor paper.
Whenever a new embossing folder becomes available I find myself inspired to create in different ways! The new Seabed embossing folder is unique in that it includes an ocean scene with an incredible amount of detail. I wanted to be able to fully capture that detail. I tried a few different methods and found that combining heat embossing with embossing folders achieved the best result.
For the cards, in today’s post, I’ve used the same methods with a variety of embossing folders and colors resulting in three completely unique outcomes!
My first card was made with the Winter Snow 3-D Embossing Folder which is in the new mini catalog that goes live on August 4, 2020. This embossing folder is part of the Snowflake Splendor product suite and is my absolute favorite set of products in the August to December 2020 mini catalog.

I’ve used several of the products from this product suite for my card including, the Snowflake Wishes Bundle (which includes a stamp set and dies), the Snowflake Splendor ribbon, and the Blue Adhesive Backed Gems.

During the demonstrator preorder, I purchased the whole suite collection using just one item code. I knew that I wanted it all!
Did you know that you can purchase all the products in any product suite with just one item code?
You’ll find that item code on the first page for each respective product suite display. Plus, there’s a list of all the product suites on page 2 of the August – December 2020 mini catalog!

If buying the whole suite collection is not an option for you, you may want to check out my unique and awesome “Taste of a Suite” Product Shares.
Through my shares program, you can purchase a little bit of each of the consumable products in a given product suite and it’s all packaged up especially for you. So… what do I mean by heat embossing with embossing folders?
Here are the steps:
- Rub a Versamark pad over one or both sides of your embossing folder.
- Place a piece of watercolor paper in your embossing folder and dry emboss using a die-cutting machine. When you do this, the Versamark ink will essentially be stamped onto the paper as the dry embossed impression is created.
- Next, cover one or both sides with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder and tap off the excess. The embossing powder will only stick where there is Versamark.
- Heat emboss the watercolor paper.
- Watercolor your paper as desired with Water Painters. The areas that are heat embossed will resist the ink.
- After the surface is dry, wipe down the surface with a damp paper towel to remove ink from the heat embossed spots and more clearly reveal the spots that have been heat-embossed.
I love the new Water Painters (Item #151298)!
They come in a set of three with three different sizes.

I am in love with this bundle and can’t wait to play some more!

For my second heat embossing with embossing folders project, I’ve used the Evergreen Forest embossing folder and the In The Pines Bundle.

As you may be able to see here, the recessed tree shapes and sky are shiny and heat embossed and I’ve watercolored over the top to bring out the trees, create the sky and sun. I also heat embossed the backside of this same piece for a very different look. I showed the backside in my video (at the end of this post) if you want to see it.

Here’s are some close ups for a better look at the sun and sky.

The sentiment piece was heat embossed with white embossing powder and watercolored with Shaded Spruce and Balmy Blue ink.

The In The Pines Bundle is definitely favorite item in the new mini catalog!

This last project was actually the inspiration for the first two projects shared today.
Check out all the amazing details in this embossing folder! By using this method of heat embossing with embossing folders, I was able to really show all the details and I just adore it! That whale is pretty darn cute too!

Just like my other cards today, the flat recessed portions of the watercolor paper are heat embossed and therefore resist the ink. So, when I applied color to each of the shapes it was very easy to pick and choose where I wanted each color to be to create my scene.

For this project, I’ve used all five of the new 2020 – 2022 In Colors.
That said, you may notice that there are more than five colors in this background. In a few places, I combined two colors to create a new color. The coral images, in particular, are mostly colored with Magenta Madness ink but in some spots, I’ve mixed this color with Misty Moonlight ink to create a shade of purple too!

For this project, I’ve used the Whale Done Bundle which includes a stamp set and the Whale Builder Punch.
I love this little whale! So cute right? Both the whale and sentiment piece are popped up on dimensionals.

You should also know that these products are part of the Whale of a Time product suite.
Check out this product suite on pages 94 – 96 of the Annual Catalog! Since it’s a suite, you can also purchase the whole suite collection with just one item code!

I’m sure you can guess, this next background piece is the backside of the piece used for the card above. As a result, I had to pick which side to use which is always hard! In this case, the recessed, heat-embossed portions are the detailed images of the embossing folder, rather than the background.

I’ve also used the 2020 – 2022 In colors for my watercoloring but instead of coloring individual shapes I’ve simply done bands of color in rainbow order.

This side is pretty cool too but I had to choose which one to use for my card.

I hope you’ve enjoyed by three heat embossing with embossing folder projects!

Have a blast trying this technique!
At the end of this post you’ll find dimensions and details for all three projects including supply lists. Just remember, some of these products will not be available to order until August 4, 2020.
Happy Crafting!
