In today’s post, I’ll share how to make lots of colorful tags with Linen Specialty Paper and Blends Alcohol Markers!
Last month I was working feverishly to earn the Stampin’ Up! Incentive Trip to Norway. One of the ways I was able to earn the trip (YES, I reach my goal) was by selling 49 Adhesives Essentials Packs! THANK YOU TO ALL THAT PURCHASED THESE! Each Adhesives Essentials Pack includes 6 different adhesives in a cute canvas pouch and a decorative tag. So guess who’s working on creating 49 colorful tags? 🙂
Here’s the first Adhesives Essentials Pack I created with all the contents in the foreground.

Now the canvas pouch started out white with a yellow zipper.
I added yellow and green to it with a super simple method. If you purchased an Adhesives Essentials pack, yours will NOT be colored so you can decorate it as you wish. I showed how to decorate the pouch in my Facebook Live Video which you will find at the end of this post.
To color my pouch I simply added some ink to a bit of water (Garden Green here) and immersed my canvas bag in it. Then I used a smaller container to mix up a coordinating color (Pacific Point here). The paintbrush was used to add the blue along the bottom of the wet pouch.

Here’s my pouch once it was dry:
I did not fuss with this much but I might just have to add some more color or stamping to this to spruce it up a bit. I did not do anything as a fixative on this yet. I’m no expert on this but someone suggested a saltwater bath might do the trick, like what you use when doing tie-dye. Something to research and experiment with on another day!
By the way, the blue migrated to the top of the pouch by itself! I really only put it along the bottom. That deep blue-green along the top is pretty don’t you think?

Now, as I mentioned, I will not be decorating the canvas pouches for the Adhesives Essentials Packs.
Each pouch will have its own unique custom-colored tag which is the main focus of this post! So, that means I needed to create a lot of colorful tags!
I wanted the tag to coordinate with the canvas look of the pouch so I decided to play with coloring my Linen Specialty Paper with Blends Alcohol Markers. It was sooooo much fun creating lots of different color combinations.
I just had to make a rainbow on the first piece I colored! ALL the Blends Alcohol Markers shown here were used to color this one piece!

After adding color to this piece of Linen Specialty Paper I used the Alphabest Stamp Set to stamp and heat emboss my “get crafty”.
YES! You can heat emboss on this Linen Paper. The heat-embossed image is flat and has a matte finish unlike when you heat emboss on cardstock. On the linen paper, the embossing powder essentially melts into the linen instead of being raised and shiny.

After stamping the sentiment I die-cut using one of the Tailored Made Tags dies.
For my additional tags, I die-cut them before adding color, which is definitely a more efficient use of the Linen Specialty Paper.

I used four of the different tag sizes and shapes to create my colorful tags.
Here’s a look at my first batch:

The Linen Specialty Paper is literally linen with an adhesive backside.
So, each of my colored linen tags is attached to a cardstock tag for the base so that it is more durable. Here you can see the backing pulled away from the linen at the top so it’s ready to attach to the white cardstock tag.

Tip: When attaching the linen to the cardstock, remove only a bit of the adhesive backing at first, so you have more control when adhering the two pieces together.

The linen is pliable just like fabric and is pretty easy to work with.

As you may be able to see below, a bit of the white cardstock shows around the edges.
I used my Blends Alcohol Markers to color the edges so the white base would blend in more. On the tag you see here I used Parakeet Party and Tahitian Tide Blends Alcohol Markers for the edges. For this tag itself, I also used Granny Apple Green Blends Alcohol Markers.

Here’s one of the tags I created during my Facebook Live video.
The color scheme here is Pale Papaya, Orchid Oasis, and Polished Pink (three of the 2021 – 2023 In Colors).

Here’s the second tag I created during my Facebook Live video.
The color scheme here is Parakeet Party, Tahitian Tide, and Orchid Oasis (three of the 2022 – 2024 In Colors). I especially love this color scheme!

For this tag, instead of heat embossing, I’ve simply stamped the “get crafty” and some additional images around the edges with Memento Black Ink. The stamp set used for these additional images is the Graceful Tiles set.

For the tag shown in the center, and the one just to the right of it, I experimented with another method to color my linen paper.
Instead of using Blends Alcohol Markers, I mixed various ink colors in rubbing alcohol to make my own alcohol ink of sorts. While the two shown here turned out well, I had mixed results with this alternative method and definitely prefer the control offered by using the Blends Alcohol Markers.

With 49 tags to make, I’ve had several tag coloring sessions! One was with my mom. 🙂

It was very fun to show my mom how to make these colorful tags with the Blends Alcohol Markers!
I think she really enjoyed it!

Here’s a photo of our messy fun at her kitchen table and a bunch of our colorful tags.
By the way, I got my crafty inclinations from my mom. She had my sister and me doing various crafts from a young age! (She made the tablecloth you see here on her kitchen table.)

Here’s the first batch of my Adhesives Essentials Packs ready to go!
I’m working on the remaining tags still but I’m almost done! The Adhesives Essentials Packs should be in the mail by the end of the upcoming week.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing and learning how to make these colorful tags with the Linen Specialty Paper!
