How to make a Book Binding Card

Today’s Club and Free Card Kit Project is a Book Binding fun fold card created using the Quiet Meadow bundle.

The vintage collage style just seemed like the perfect fit for this book-binding card. It makes me think of an old journal. The construction of this card is actually quite simple which is one thing I love about it.

That said, the stamped focal piece has a lot of little details that helped to create the vintage collage look.

I used my Jet Black Staz On in full ink for some images and second ink for others. In this close up you may be able to see that the black flowers in the middle and tiny flowers are stamped with full ink and the large flowers on the top and sides are stamped off. This creates a look of depth and helps direct your eye.

The darker black flowers and tiny flowers both have been colored with a Clear Wink of Stella Brush to again make them take center stage. The Champagne Rhinestone Jewels add another little splash of shine to tie in with the Wink of Stella plus add a bit of bling to the vintage look.

Three different browns were used for my stamping and to apply additional color with Blending Brushes. There are two images stamped in the brown shades, the text image, and the specks. The text image was stamped in Sahara Sand ink with both first and second ink. I love how this image fits so well with the Book Binding card theme! The specks were stamped in Soft Suede in first, second, third, and fourth ink.

After all the stamping was done and the various browns were added with my Blending Brushes, a scissors was used to distress the edges of my focal piece.

After my focal piece was designed I then started playing with ribbons.

I toyed around with a few options but settled on the multilayered element you see in the close-up photo below. The Metallic Mesh is colored with a Bronze Blends Alcohol Marker. Then my three ribbons were simply layered on top of one another and tied in the center with some linen thread. I attached this little embellishment with Multipurpose Liquid Glue. You could also use a Mini Glue Dot.

The designer paper on the binding comes from the In Good Taste Designer Paper Pack. I especially love the look of the fabric image in the background.

I just had to stamp on the inside of my Book Binding card and created two versions for the two finished cards that I made. Here’s my first version:

For this second version, some of the same elements from the front were included to add give the inside the same vintage look. In addition to the stamping, I also added a bit of subtle color to the edges with my Blending Brush.

Now when I was designing this card, I toyed with placing my ribbon embellishment on the focal piece itself. Check out the photo below to see what this looks like. I actually really like this option too. Which do you prefer? If you feel so inclined please leave a comment and let me know!
