It is actually very easy to make a floating strips card, even though it might not have looked that way in my video! LOL!
In my recent Facebook Live video, I shared how to make a floating strips card with the gorgeous Fitting Florets designer paper and Framed Florets Bundle by Stampin’ Up! For this project, I’ve also used one of the Deckled Rectangle dies for a background piece; It is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

At the bottom of the card, I’ve used a piece of the Soft Succulent Satin Shimmer Ribbon that’s cut down the middle.
This ribbon is ½” wide to start so after it’s cut, it’s about ¼” wide. When you cut your ribbon in this way, you can pull out some of the fibers to create an added element of texture on your card. I took some of those fibers, folded them in half, and attached them behind my sentiment piece. I love the added texture and element of interest!

As I mentioned above, it’s usually really easy to make a floating strips card but I did run into some technical difficulties when making this one.
To make this type of card you’ll use a window as your base and put strips of cardstock or designer paper over the top. The technical difficulty I had was due to the thickness of the window sheet and a problem with the die cutting through all the layers. For the particulars, either watch my video below or go to my previous post to see some simple graphics on how to make a floating strips card.
The die used to create today’s floating element is supposed to cut out two pieces at once.
The Balmy Blue pieces shown below were cut out using this single die. For the focal element on my card, the die did not fully cut on the line that creates the inner oval. So, for my card, these two pieces are stuck together.

In the close-up below you can see the two pieces nested next to each other.
Since the die did not want to cut through both the designer paper and the window sheet behind, I just decided to use them together as one piece.

The Framed Florets Dies have three oval-shaped elements with only two shown in the photo below.
There are also lots of floral/foliage elements too!
The second decorative oval below and on the left also cut out two pieces with just one die. I love how all of these different pieces can be used together or individually for lots of different layering options!

In this next photo, I wanted to highlight this second die because I had the same problem with this die as with the die used for the focal piece on my card. As you might be able to see in the photo below, the frame piece got ruined in the process of attempting various methods to die-cut it. So, I simply used paper snips to cut along the line between the frame and the inside oval so I could use the inside oval piece for another design. The new card is yet to be designed. 🙂

Here’s another look at my final card:
Someone in my Facebook Live pointed out that it looks like an Easter Egg! Fun right!? I’m not sure I would have thought of that myself although now that I look at it that way, it seems so obvious!

If you enjoyed this card, you’re going to love my new Fitting Florets class to go!
