Inky Fun with the Snowflake Splendor Suite

Are you ready for some Inky Fun with the Snowflake Splendor Suite? I had so much fun that I ended up with ink on my neck, hands, and a leg!

Now if you follow my blog closely you might notice that the card in the upper right-hand corner below is familiar. This was one of two projects shared for the September 2020 Color Challenge and Color Fusers Blog Hop. My story of Inky Fun with the Snowflake Splendor Suite starts with this single card because it essentially spawned two “children”, the additional cards you see below.

Are you ready for some Inky Fun with the Snowflake Splendor Suite? I had so much fun that I ended up with ink on my neck, hands, and a leg!

Would you like to know how I created this background?

Now, in my previous post, I did not explain how I created the background for my snowflakes and so that’s part of what I’m going to do in today’s post. I think it’s just too gorgeous not to share!

Are you ready for some Inky Fun with the Snowflake Splendor Suite? I had so much fun that I ended up with ink on my neck, hands, and a leg!

Below is a photo of two background pieces.

  • The one on the right is the actual piece used for the background in the card above.
  • The one on the left was created using the piece on the right. The short story is that I essentially “kissed” these two pieces together, pulling ink from the one on the right to create the one on the left.

This is the card I made with this “kissed” background:

Are you ready for some Inky Fun with the Snowflake Splendor Suite? I had so much fun that I ended up with ink on my neck, hands, and a leg!

Here are the steps with photos for creating a “kissed” background:

First, you’ll need to create this background with acrylic blocks. To learn how to make this background, watch my recent video. Click HERE to go to the exact spot in the video where this demonstration begins. I was inspired by fellow demonstrator Tina Zink to create this background.

Step #1:

Step #2:

This rectangle will serve as a placement guide in the next steps.

Step #3:

If you want your “kissed” background to be centered on your watercolor paper it’s important to center your watercolor paper on the drawn rectangle.

Tip:

  • The more wet your paper is the more blended the result you’ll get when “kissing”.
  • If your paper is not very wet you’ll get a grainy, textured look.

Step #4:

Step #5:

Are you ready for some Inky Fun with the Snowflake Splendor Suite? I had so much fun that I ended up with ink on my neck, hands, and a leg!

Here’s the result of my kissing. As you can see I used less water than in my original.

Are you ready for some Inky Fun with the Snowflake Splendor Suite? I had so much fun that I ended up with ink on my neck, hands, and a leg!

Here’s the “kissed” piece from my first card which is much more blended because I used more water.

Both pieces post “kissing”:

As you can see each background will turn out to be unique.

Below are the “kissed” pieces from my live demonstration:

So to create my finished cards I used my Stamparatus to stamp, and then I heat embossed my snowflakes on each of these background pieces.

Here’s how I set up my Stampartus so I could stamp all my snowflakes at once:

After I did my stamping with the Stamparatus and heat embossing I die-cut a stitched rectangle from the center of my background piece (the one with the block stamping). This left me with my focal piece for one card AND an outside frame piece for yet another card! You’ll see this outside frame piece on my last and final card below.

Here are my cards made with a pair of these kissed backgrounds:

Last but not least, here is my third card:

As you can see I’ve used the outside frame, from my background with the block stamping, to frame the focal piece. This focal piece with the streaky background was created with baby wipes and re-inkers.

I sure hope you’ve enjoyed my inky fun with the Snowflake Splendor Suite!

These were a blast to create.

In my video, I also talk a bit about what I call the “Building Blocks of a Design Process” and how my project designs today evolved.

Sometimes getting started creating is the hardest part so I thought that breaking down my steps might be helpful to others. Click HERE to jump to the part of my video where I talk about my design process.
