Natures Thoughts Dies Fun Fold Card

In today’s post, I’ll be featuring a Natures Thoughts Dies Fun Fold Card. This is one of my three March/April 2020 Club and Free Card Kit projects.

This Natures Thoughts Dies fun fold card, also uses the Positive Thoughts Stamp Set and gorgeous Perennial Essence designer series paper. We’ll use most of the patterns of designer paper so there will be several card variations depending on the designer paper piece used. I think my club and Free Card Kit recipients are going to love all the variations!

Would you like to get FREE project kits in the mail? I’d love to send you some! Plus, first-time customers get all three kits no matter what the purchase size! You’ll find more details later in this post.

This first version is my original and simplest card.

My Fern images are stamped using Craft White Ink on Old Olive and Mossy Meadow cardstock. This is a slow drying pigment ink so you’ll need to allow it to dry for a while, or dry it with a heat tool.

Now for the butterfly, you can attempt to keep the cutout piece intact OR you can let them fall out.

I decided to keep the cutout pieces in the butterfly in place because I liked the look. Getting the pieces to stay in place can be a bit tricky. I’ve included a segment in my video tutorial, with details on how to get the pieces to stay in place. You’ll find the video tutorial toward the end of this post.

For this next one, I added some pearls to the four corners of the die-cut rectangle. I love the delicate zig-zag edge on this rectangle die!

This next card uses one of the other patterns of designer paper plus I’ve also changed the placement of the pearls. I personally prefer the pearls placed as shown here vs in the four corners.

On this card, I’ve also used the butterfly with the pieces poked out. This is definitely the easier of the two options because the pieces tend to just fall out of this die after it’s die-cut.

Here’s my pair of cards side by side:

Here’s an alternative version made with one of the other patterns in the designer paper pack.

I think this one is pretty too but I especially love the patterns with the purples, blues, and greens.

As you can see in this next photo these are simple fun fold cards.

I love the non-traditional way that they open but they’re super easy to create. Another detail that may not be obvious here is that the Balmy Blue strip of cardstock on the left is dry embossed with the Subtle Embossing Folder. I dry embossed and cut three different colors of these strips to coordinate with the different designer paper patterns.

Every pattern in this designer paper works with this design if…

…you change out the color of the dry embossed strip and the butterfly to match! You’ll see more details on that in my video tutorial ahead.

Here you can see that the Old Olive strip serves like an “arm” that is tucked under the inside panel and folds open to the left.

This is a very simple card to construct and yet it provides a bit of a surprise factor with the fun fold. Plus, when you open the left side, you reveal this gorgeous designer paper pattern!
