Today’s post is all about Embossing Folders and fun ways to use them!
At the beginning of June, I shared my contest winning technique card that used the Lovely Lace Embossing Folder. Since that time I’ve tried this technique with lots of different embossing folders!
Here’s a little sneak peek of that original card:

I got such a great response that I decided to offer a technique class that included the Impressions of Tarnished Foil technique and another design that also uses heat and dry embossing.
FYI, created a comprehensive tutorial for the Impressions of Tarnished Foil which is now available!
The class was a blast! At one point, I was so excited I felt like a little kid.
One of the things that made it super fun was that the class was designed for people to participate in what I called a “Guided Creative Play” option. Participants were allowed to choose from a variety of embossing folders and a few embossing powders too.
Instead of demonstrating the exact same card in the class, I decided to use a different Embossing Folder instead. That way I was able to show a different outcome with the same technique.
As I was demonstrating, it occurred to me… why not try using both the copper and gold embossing powders on the same focal piece (one at a time of course). OMG… I absolutely loved the result. Everyone else did too, so there was lots of experimenting with both embossing powders!
Here’s what I created during my demonstration with the Woodlands Embossing folder and what I’m now calling the Impressions of Tarnished Foil Technique:

I wanted to show the embossed piece with and without the owl. I love the owl but also felt conflicted about covering up this little creation. Which do you prefer… with or without the owl?

Embossing folders are one of my absolute favorite products that Stampin’ Up! sells and heat embossing is a favorite technique without question.
After you see the results of this class, these may be some of your favorites too! The outcomes were truly inspiring so I wanted to share a few photos.
Below you will see Ammie’s creations… I was so excited by what she made I forgot to take a picture of her. Sorry Ammie!
These are truely masterpieces and they haven’t even been made into cards yet! I love all these embossing folders with this technique.

Here are some photos of Lisa, Sue and Rosanne with their wonderful creations!

In the photos below Melissa R. is holding the two card styles/layouts that we made. I’ll show more samples of the card on the left next.

This next design also uses heat and dry embossing, with various embossing folders, but for this design I used cardstock, not foil.
This is my original design of the second card:

For the Creative Play Option people were asked to identify a few Stampin’ Up! colors that they especially love. I used this information to come up with variations in the colors used on one of their cards with this layout. Only a few of the combinations are shown here.
This was one of my creations as I was showing alternatives to the original design.
I decided to stamp some images over the top of the brick for another fun look.

This focal piece was created by Lisa, one of the class participants.
She chose to use a different focal piece so I made a card with what she left behind. I think it’s quite beautiful!

I just had to try this technique with the new Holly Embossing folder from the 2016 – 2017 Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Catalog.

One final version using the Stars Embossing Folder…

With all these variations it probably looks like I’m addicted to these techniques and embossing folders… Well, I think I am!!!
I need a twelve step program! Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change… I accept it! I love this craft to pieces and will never stop!!!
This class was so much fun, not just for those that attended but for me too! It is the fuel that inspires me to keep doing this craft and sharing it with others… It was like a crazy creative frenzy of excitement that was infectious. I just love all the little masterpieces that people came up with! It was simply inspiring!
So did you find this as inspiring as I did?
