Today’s project features lots of butterflies in a rainbow of colors, with the Gingham Gala Product Suite. The Rock and Roll Stamping Technique is used and demonstrated in my Facebook live video. Today’s project is called a Floating Card.
I used five products from the Gingham Gala product suite, for my cards, including; the Butterfly Gala Stamp Set, Butterfly Duet Punch, Gingham Gala Designer Paper, Gingham Gala Adhesive Backed Sequins and the Whisper White Flax Ribbon.
By using all these products within a single product suite it made the design process so easy!
The stamp set and punch will be available to purchase on 1/3/19, but you can buy my “Taste of a Suite” product shares NOW but only through 1/4/19!
With my “Taste of a Suite” product shares, you can get all the consumables (in this suite) that were used on these projects, for just $10! There are more details later in this post.
I’ve used a variety of techniques to create my butterflies including two-step stamping, stamping off, the rock and roll stamping technique and coloring with Blends Alcohol markers.
In my facebook live video (included ahead) I also showed some variations made with heat embossing and Brusho Crystal Colour. At the end of this post, you’ll find a graphic that shows the colors and techniques used for each of these butterflies!
Check out my fun array of colored butterflies!
The card you see below was my first design. All the butterflies on this version use simple two-step stamping with full ink in a variety of colors.
It’s called two-step stamping because you start by stamping the black butterfly images first. Then for the second step, you stamp the color over the butterfly image with the color(s) of your choosing. Two images were used to apply color to the large butterfly, one for the top two wings and a second one for the bottom two wings. By having two stamps it’s really easy to apply different colors to the top and bottom of the butterfly if you wish.
I couldn’t help but make this design with lots of the colors I was playing with, but for my later versions, I simplified the colors a bit.
The five colors used in the card above are the colors of the Gingham Gala Designer Series paper (DSP) stack. I’ve used this DSP for the top and bottom panels on the card.
The color scheme for this next card is Balmy Blue, Pacific Point, Lemon Lime Twist, and Granny Apple Green.
For this version, I used regular stamping for some of the butterflies, but for a few of them, I used the rock and roll stamping technique.
Can you see the darker blue on the edge of the large and small butterflies, on the right side of the card? These were made using both Balmy Blue and Pacific Point Ink.
The color scheme for this next card is Grapefruit Grove, Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight, and Crushed Curry.
The rock and roll stamping technique was used for all the butterflies on this card.
Last but not least, the colors used for the card below are Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape, Lemon Lime Twist, Granny Apple Green, Balmy Blue, and Pacific Point.
This is a variation of the first card I showed in this post. I simply replaced the yellow and orange butterflies with green and blue butterflies.
I decided that the first version was just a bit too busy with so many colors, so I decided to simplify it.
For all three versions…
- Attach the butterflies with either glue dots or a mini stampin’ dimensional.
- The sentiment piece is attached to the Whisper White Flax ribbon with glue dots. Then attach this assembled piece, to the bottom of the card, using multipurpose liquid glue.
- Place some adhesive-backed sequins in various spots to add some whimsical fun to the card.
Lastly… one of the small butterflies, on each card, is attached to the inside. Fun right?
You can see this additional detail in the photos below.

Great cards, love them.
Thanks so much Carol. I’m glad you enjoyed the cards in this post!
j’adore ces superbes cartes. Merci
Thank you!
I just came across this card because I just purchased this stamp bundle. My question is, what are your using to adhere your butterflies to the window sheets so the glue/adhesive does not show through the window sheet?
Hi Brenda. I actually just used glue dots to hold the butterflies on the window sheet. They do show on the inside but I just chose to not worry about it. I did contemplate putting some butterflies in the inside to cover up the glue dots and decorate the inside but chose not to. Thanks for commenting and have fun playing!
Hi
Your video was helpful and I enjoyed watching and doing the card but I used yellow card stock with sunflowers and white rose’s for my daughter’s 40th birthday Thank-you.
I’m from Australia Queensland.
I love that you were inspired to create and made the card your own! I’m sure your daughter loved it! Thanks for commenting!!! Have a wonderful day and Happy Crafting!
