See My Latest Favorite Way to Use Gilded Leafing and Paper Scraps!

In today’s post, I’ll be sharing some projects made with my new favorite way to use Gilded Leafing and paper scraps!

I was inspired to create my projects after seeing a video by Tina Zink, a fellow demonstrator in Canada. She calls this technique Gilded Grout and it’s absolutely addictive! Plus, it makes great use of one of my favorite embellishments and something I have tons of… Gilded Leafing and paper scraps. My first card includes a simple fun fold and it’s made with the Simply Elegant Speciality paper. This paper has gold, silver, and copper metallic elements on one side, and black, gray, and white patterns on the backside.

To create the main element for this card I’ve used leftover scraps of designer paper measuring 1″ x 12″, Gilded Leafing, and an Adhesive Sheet. For my butterflies I used the Brilliant Wings Dies with Basic Black cardstock and scraps of Gold Metallic Specialty paper. Watch my video tutorial at the end of this post to see how this card was made start to finish.

When deciding on embellishments for this card I intentionally used these small butterfly accents so I wouldn’t be covering up the gorgeous designer paper and gilded grout. I just love how the Gilded Leafing, Gold Metallic speciality paper and Simply Elegant designer paper look together!

I typically find that designs with lots of patterns are too busy for me, but the grout provides the order needed to make it all work together!

Now I just had to make a version with Gilded Leafing and paper scraps using the backsides of these same papers!

For this version, I’ve made a regular A2 size card with a regular fold. I’ve added some ribbon and eliminated the butterflies so this version would have more of a masculine feel to it.

I think these less showy patterns are just gorgeous as well!

After creating these first two cards, I just had to go searching for other designer papers that I could use for this layout, with my Gilded Leafing and paper scraps.

These next two cards feature two alternative designer papers plus some other variations as well! The one you see here is made with the new Stampin’ Up! 2021 – 2023 In Colors. All the patterns and colors in this set of designer papers are included on this one card which I think is just so fun!

This card, just like the last one is a regular folded A2 size card and it has the same ribbons on the binding. Gilded Leafing was also used for the “grout” here.

Last but not least, I just had to show how you can vary this design by changing two important features!

This card was made using thinner strips of designer paper (½” wide instead of 1″). I’ve used strips of the Garden Dandy designer paper which unfortunately retired last month.

Plus, instead of using Gilded Leafing for the “grout” I’ve heat embossed with Gold Embossing Powder. I personally love the shiny, textured look of the Gilded Leafing but the gold embossing is a wonderful alternative too. For this version, I’ve also used my Dragonflies punch, some Wink of Stella, and the Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder which are all products you can still purchase.

This card is the same fun fold card layout as the second card shared earlier. The part that opens on this card is the Misty Moonlight piece which measures 3-3/4″ x 11″ folded in half. The front half of this piece is dry embossed with the Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these projects made with my latest favorite way to use Gilded Leafing and paper scraps.

I had a blast making these and hope you’re inspired to create your own!
