Simple Card Making Ideas with Spotlighting

I’ve got two simple card making ideas for you today that feature a technique called Spotlighting. It’s a fun way to take a simple card and add an interesting little twist!

The first of my simple card making ideas features the new Sale-A-Bration set called Home To Roost. I’m loving this set!

The Spotlighting Technique is used to add a fun twist to some simple card making ideas. The Home to Roost and All That You Are stamp sets are used.

A couple of project details:

  • You’ll dry emboss the card base using the Tin Tile embossing folder and then do the Direct To Paper technique to add a little color on the raised areas near the edges.
  • Dry emboss the Early Espresso layer with the Pinewood Planks folder. Then attached it on an angle to the card body with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Tip: Multipurpose Liquid glue is especially helpful when attaching two dry embossed pieces since they are both not flat surfaces.

The Spotlighting Technique is used to add a fun twist to some simple card making ideas. The Home to Roost and All That You Are stamp sets are used.

More project details:

  • Color the area with the “spotlight” with Blends Alcohol markers and use an Aqua Painter to splatter a bit of Early Espresso ink on the focal piece.
  • So, to do the spotlighting you’ll need a circle punch and the Layering Circles framelits. These framelits are perfectly sized to provide a thin backing to several of the Stampin’ Up! circle punches.

Tip: With this technique, it’s best to back the element in the spotlight, with a circle that is just a tiny bit larger than the stamped circle. If the edge is too big is detracts from the true Spotlighting effect.

This second of my simple card making ideas features the All That You Are Stamp Set from the Occasions Catalog.

I used a larger circle punch and die for the spotlighting effect here since this image is quite a bit bigger than the rooster. I’ve also used Blends Alcohol Markers.

The Highland Heather piece is attached to the card base using dimensional. The Spotlighting Technique is used to add a fun twist to some simple card making ideas. The Home to Roost and All That You Are stamp sets are used.
