The projects in this post use the To A Wild Rose Stamp Set and Wild Rose Dies.
I showed these projects during my OnStage presentation in Charlotte, NC back in April of 2019, but have yet to share them here on my blog. It’s about time, right?
For both of these projects, I’ve used my Black Ice technique with copper and gold foil sheets to create some very dramatic effects. This first one is the simpler of the two cards, although I would still categorize it as a card for the avid/enthusiastic crafter.

Here are the steps for creating this card:
- Heat emboss the rose image in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder on gold foil.
- Do the black ice technique over the heat embossed rose and die-cut with Wild Rose die. If you’re not familiar with the Black Ice technique you’ll find one of my Black Ice technique videos ahead plus some additional links to see more projects.
- Rub black StazOn ink on the edges of the rose and use a bone folder to curl up the edges of the flower petals.
- Do the, direct to paper technique, using Black StazOn onto a piece of copper foil to create black streaks across the surface.
- Die-cut three copper leaves using the Wild Rose dies.
In the close-up photo below you may be able to see the “icy” Black Ice effect, on the gold rose, and the black streaks on the copper foil leaves.

Some more project details for putting this card together:
- Attach copper leaves to the back of the die-cut rose using mini glue dots.
- Put Stampin’ Dimensionals all over the back of the rose/leaves element and attach to the piece of black foil.
- Attach black foil focal piece to Basic Black layer and put dimensionals on the back of the basic black layer.
- Fold basic black card body in half.
- Dry emboss the Soft Suede layer using the Subtle Embossing Folder and attach it to the card body.
- Attach the focal piece with its backings to the dry embossed soft suede cardstock layer.

This stamp set and dies can also be purchased as a bundle and you save 10%!

Here’s is my second card:

For this extra-large card, I created the rose with copper foil (instead of gold) and die cut the leaves from gold foil (instead of copper).
Many of the elements and steps are the same as for the first card. I’ve just added some additional details and stamping.
Check out all the detail in this close up:

Here are the steps to create this card:
- Heat emboss two rose images in Black Stampin’Emboss Powder on copper foil.
- Heat emboss three leaves images in Black Stampin’Emboss Powder on gold foil.
- Do the black ice technique over ONE of the heat embossed roses on the copper foil and do the black ice technique over all three leaves images on the gold foil.
- Die-cut ONE of the roses and all three leaves using the Wild Rose Dies.
- Hand-cut the inner section of the second heat embossed copper rose with paper snips.
- Use a bone folder to curl up the edges of the flower petals, inner flower cut piece and leaves.
- Attach all the pieces of the rose and surrounding leaves using glue dots.
- Attach Metallic Gold Thread and cold cord on the back of the rose/leaves element.
- Put Stampin’ Dimensionals all over the back of the rose/leaves element and attach to the piece of black foil.
