Valentines Day Ideas

Today’s post features four homemade Valentines Day ideas shared in my recent Facebook Live event. Projects include a card & three, 3-D items. Projects are made with the All My Love suite by Stampin’ Up!

Here is the ensemble of items made (or started) during the live event:

Today's Facebook Live features four homemade Valentines Day ideas including a card & 3-D items. Projects are made with the All My Love suite by Stampin' Up!

The first project shared in the live event was an alternative opening sort of card. It’s the one that is displayed upright in the photo below. It’s essentially a pocket with a piece that pulls out for writing a note.

  • This card is simply made with a piece of Lovely Lipstick cardstock measuring 4-1/4″ x 11″ and then scored in two places.
  • I’ve used three ribbons/trims to tie around the card including the Lovely Lipstick ribbon that is part of the All My Love product suite (in the Occasions Catalog), some of the Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon and some Solid Black Bakers Twine. In the Facebook Live, I shared a little tip for tieing the ribbons around the body of the card. Since I used all three ribbons it presented a bit of a challenge, but the method I used helped a lot. You’ll find a link to the video later in this post.
  • For this project, I attached the left and right sides of the pocket with a thin piece of Tear and Tape type adhesive.

Project Dimensions  for the Pocket Card above:

  • Lovely Lipstick Card Body: 4-1/4” x 11″ scored at 1-1/2″ and 5-1/2″
  • All My Love Designer Paper: 3″ x 4″
  • Whisper White Insert Piece: 3-3/4″ x 5-1/8
  • Ribbons/Bakers Twine: Approximately 14″ of each

After I made the “pocket card” above it occurred to me that if I just resized it a bit and changed the scoring I could make an actual pocket for a chocolate bar as you see below.

For this next project I scored in three places, instead of two, so I’d end up with a taller back to accommodate the length of the chocolate bar, plus a 1/4″ base to allow for the depth of the chocolate bar at the bottom of the pocket.

  • Use a 1/8″ handheld punch to create the holes on either side of the pocket, and tie with black cording to hold it closed.
  • Stamp the sentiment and teeny tiny hearts images, from the Forever Lovely stamp set, to create the element on the front. The hearts here were stamped with both Lovely Lipstick and Flirty Flamingo in first and second inking.
  • Punch out the sentiment using the Pretty Label punch.
  • Use the same punch in Basic Black cardstock to create the edge around the sentiment piece. You’ll simply cut the black piece in half the long way and place the pieces in behind the white punched, stamped piece.

Project Dimensions  for the Candy Bar Pocket Card above:

  • Lovely Lipstick Card Body: 4-1/4” x 11″ scored at 1″, 4-3/4″ & 5″
  • All My Love Designer Paper: 3″ x 4″
  • Whisper White Insert Piece: 3-3/4″ x 5-1/8
  • Black Cording Approximately 10″

The next project is this little Pocket Pouch created with the All My Love Designer Series paper. This is incredibly simple to create with just a few folds and doesn’t even require the use of adhesive!

Use any size of square designer series paper (DSP) or cardstock, to create these little pouches! The pouch on the right started as an 8-1/4″ x 8-1/4″ piece of DSP and the smaller version started as a 6″ x 6″ piece of DSP. I’ve stuffed the small version on the right with Hershey’s kisses, put it in a cello bag, tied it up with some ribbon and created a cute little tag. Watch my video ahead to see how these fold up.

The final project shared is these cute little Hershey’s nugget “purses”. These are another super quick Valentines Day idea!

For these “purses” you just start with a strip of cardstock, score it, add some ribbon for the handle, some DSP to decorate the front and sentiment and you’re all done. Aren’t these just the cutest!?

Project Dimensions  for Hershey’s Nugget “Purses”:

  • Purse Body: 2-1/4” x 5-1/4″ scored at 1-3/4, 2-3/4″ & 4-1/2″
  • All My Love Designer Paper: 1-1/2″ x 2″
  • White, Black and Pear Pizzaz scraps for sentiments
  • Various ribbons for “purse handle” – 8″ for each “purse”

I hope you’ve enjoyed my four Valentines Day ideas and will use some or all of them for Valentine’s Day this year!
