Vintage Card with Masking and Embossing

Today’s project features masking and embossing techniques to create a gorgeous vintage card made with the Natures Harvest Bundle and more!

This card all started with a piece of “card salad” from when I was creating designs for my Faux Patina Technique class. So, what is “card salad”? Well, it’s simply the term I use for all the leftover bits and pieces from a given creative session. I often end up with lots of little gems that I never managed to incorporate into my final projects. Sometimes I go into my little “card salad” baggies and just start playing. The tag was created from one of my “card salad” baggies.

Now, this tag is dry embossed, then heat embossed with copper embossing powder, and then I’ve added various colors with my Blending Brushes. For all the details make sure to check out my video at the end of this post.

Next, I prepared all the pieces for the front of my tag. These were attached with a combination of Mini-Glue Dots, Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals, and Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

The sentiment piece was heat embossed with copper embossing powder on a piece of Soft Sea Foam cardstock.

I fussy-cut the sentiment with my Paper Snips.

On this version of my Vintage Card, I used Mint Macaron ink with one of the Plenty of Patterns Decorative Masks to create the background pattern. This set of decorative masks is retiring on May 2nd. Make sure to purchase these soon if you want them. You get a set of four different masks for just $8!

Here’s a close-up so you can check out some of the details at the top of my card:

I love the rustic, vintage look of the tag!

Now I ended up creating two versions of this card, the one you’ve seen here, and one that I made during my Facebook Live video. Scroll down just a bit to see the second version of my card.

As you can see this second version is quite different from the first one!

On this alternative card, I created the tag in a different way and used Soft Sea Foam ink for the masking in the background, instead of Mint Macaron ink. Changing these elements created a very different end result.

For the second version of my tag, I heat embossed on the side with the letters raised so there were just touches of copper on the raised areas. On the original version, I heat embossed on the side with more flat areas so there were much larger areas with copper embossing.

Here are my two vintage cards side by side:
