In today’s post, I’ll be sharing two cards made with the retiring Welcoming Woods Stamp Set, one of my absolute favorite sets in the July to December mini-catalog!
This project was created while playing with ideas for my Sepia Effects Technique Class and they both feature forest scenes with a vintage look. I’ve used a variety of fun techniques to create these gorgeous projects with the Welcoming Woods Stamp Set.

On both projects I’ve heat embossed my trees and created an antiqued background by stamping with ink and a large acrylic block! Click HERE to see various blog posts where I’ve used this fun acrylic block technique.
For these backgrounds, I’ve used a combination of Crumb Cake and Soft Suede Ink on my acrylic block.

On this first card my trees are heat embossed in white and done some gold heat embossing as well.
An image from the Gorgeous Leaves Stamp Set (also retiring) was used to stamp and heat emboss the gold specks. I’ve also rubbed my Versamark ink pad along the edges of my focal piece and heat embossed in gold.

For a bit of a fall twist, some of the lovely leaves from the Welcoming Woods stamp set were stamped in first and second inking.
The leaves are stamped so they look like they are falling and maybe even flying around in the air! They look like they are behind the tree trunks because the ink absorbs into the exposed watercolor paper and the heat embossed trees resist the ink so the ink simply wipes off the surface. I just love the look!
To add to the vintage look the script image from the Very Versaille Stamp Set was stamped in various spots in, first and second inking, using Early Espresso ink.

Along the bottom of my focal piece, I’ve also added a bit of additional Soft Suede ink to ground the tree trunks at their bases. I used a Blending Brush to apply this additional color. A piece of Bakers Twine was wrapped around the mounted focal piece three times and overlapped for a pleasing look with a little bit of interest that’s also not too busy.
The white torn piece behind is dry embossed using the Timeworn Type embossing folder and mounted to the card with Dimensionals.

My second card is done in much the same way as the first card with a few important changes.

In some ways, this card is even simpler than the first one. As you can see I’ve eliminated the leaves altogether. For this version the specks are stamped in Early Espresso ink instead of heat embossed.

The most obvious and important difference on this card is how I’ve heat embossed the tree trunks.

I’ve actually used one of my favorite heat embossing tricks on this card.
This trick allows me to heat emboss in any color that I want. The trees here use Versamark with Sahara Sand ink and clear embossing powder to create the look you see here. The images are somewhat clear with a Sahara Sand hue to them. I just LOVE this look. Click HERE to see another blog post with a similar project.

Here are my two cards side by side. Which do you like better? Hard to pick right?
